I will freely admit to thinking that "all natural" automatically means "better." This, despite the fact that I am fully aware that many all-natural things -- cyanide, for example -- are no better than their chemical-y counterparts. Now that it's fully bug season, should we invest in natural repellent?

First of all, insect repellents need to work. I once tried a natural bug spray that worked just as well as swearing at mosquitoes and waving my hands around. Which is to say, not at all.

Something that definitely works: Adopting non-chemical strategies in addition to whatever sprays you use. Wearing light colors, skipping the floral perfume, standing next to me -- all good ideas.
