COULD TAKING A CALCIUM BASED ANTACID BE DECREASING MY IRON ABSORBENCY?

Question by MAR:
Could taking a calcium based antacid be decreasing my iron absorbency?

Hi there, I read someplace that calcium taken two hours from iron consumption decreases iron absorption, is this correct?

Solution by Albee
Hi,

Yes that is appropriate, any calcium (milk, youghurt, dietary supplements) will interfere with iron absorption. If you are taking calcium based meds and iron supplements you require to make positive that you take them as far apart as you possibly can (not just 2 hours).

If you are not taking iron supplemetns then you are obtaining most of your iron from your main meal (dinner) so you ought to try and prevent taking your calcium based meds close to your principal meal.

Use Google Voice Search through Arduino & Bluetooth

Posted: 13 Sep 2011 09:45 AM PDT

With the launch of Google's new Voice Search feature on the Chrome browser, you can trust the DIY community to come up with some cool hacks.  The Verbalizer is an Open Source development board based on Arduino which wirelessly communicates with your computer via Bluetooth. Activate it and as usual it opens Google.com in a new tab and starts Voice Search.

Audio feedback lets you know that Google is ready for your voice search. Now, you can speak into the mic and see the results of your search. The Verbalizer gives a development platform to geeks to find creative ways to connect to Google's Voice Search and create hardware to integrate with the platform.  Take some hints from the video below and download all the project details.

Italian vs American Pizzas

Posted: 12 Sep 2011 05:45 PM PDT

It's fairly well established that the first pizza as we know it today was created by a man named Esposito from Naples, Italy. Esposito's creation was designed to honor the visit of Queen Margherita to Naples in 1889, and he decorated it with the colors of the Italian flag. The most traditional pie is the pizza Napolitano, or Neapolitan pizza. Common varieties of Neapolitan pizza include marinara, made with tomato, olive oil, oregano, and garlic, and margherita, made with tomato, olive oil, fresh basil leaves, and mozzarella cheese....Read On
