| Brainport Vision Device Gives “Sight” Through the Tongue Posted: 04 Aug 2011 12:52 AM PDT Cutting edge technologies like the Brainport Vision Device are helping the blind scale new peaks; quite literally. The video above shows how a man uses Brainport to see via give the visually impaired a limited sense of sight through sensory feedback on the tongue. A head mounted camera captures visual data and then converts the pixels to a simulated pattern. This pattern is communicated to a small unit on the tongue through gentle electrical signals.  The tongue 'display' helps the blind to make out high-contrast objects, their position, movement, and some aspects of perspective and depth. Brainport Technologies' pioneering tech for the visually impaired is explained in more detail with images that how information from the video camera is represented on the tongue. Similar Projects:
